Montgomery County 9-1-1 System Upgraded to Accommodate Text Messaging

The Montgomery County Emergency Communication District announced that it hasimplemented text–to–911 service throughout all of Montgomery County, including The Woodlands and the City of Conroe. Wireless customers can now send a text (up to 140 characters) to 9-1-1 in an emergency. Text to 9-1-1 should only be used in an emergency and only when placing a voice call is not possible.

Citizens who find themselves in an emergency and are unable to make a voice call to 9-1-1 should remember these steps:
• Don’t text and drive
• When sending a text to 9-1-1, do not include dashes or any other characters.
• In the first text message send the location and type of emergency.
• Text in simple words. Send a short text message without abbreviations or slang.
• Be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the 9-1-1 call taker.
• Photos and videos cannot be sent to 9-1-1 at this time.
• Text-to-9-1-1 cannot include more than one person. Do not send your emergency text to 9-1-1 in a group text message.
• Voice calls to 9-1-1 are always the best and fastest way get help.

MUDs Modified its Homeowner Deposit Refund Policy

From the WJPA: Your bill may include a security deposit refund. Your Municipal Utility District recently modified its homeowner deposit refund policy. The prior policy returned deposits when closing service. Now, homeowners with consecutive on-time payment history for 12 months will automatically receive a deposit refund. The billing software will identify eligible accounts and apply the deposit to the account balance. The “Total Account Balance” box on your bill may show either a credit balance or a reduced total bill, due to the deposit refund.

If the “Total Account Balance” does not indicate a reduced bill, the payment history did not meet the refund criteria. However, the software reviews all accounts monthly and applies refunds accordingly. Future refunds will be itemized on the bill. If you have any questions regarding the deposit refund policy, please contact Customer Accounts at 855-h2o-save, ext. 3.
