Plans Halted on Eagle Island
Citizens for Eagle Island was created by several residents of Grogan’s Mill Village to oppose the re-plat of Mitchell Island. The small, uninhabited island in Lake Woodlands and adjacent to the East Shore community has been platted for 19 homes for many years, however officials with Howard Hughes began the process of seeking a re-plat to allow 58 homes on the island with the Houston Planning Commission. After weeks of complaints, petitions and criticism over plans to build 58 homes on Mitchell Island in The Woodlands, local residents and officials from the Howard Hughes Corp. have agreed to a compromise that will see only 25 to 30 homes constructed and green space set aside for a family of bald eagles.

GMVA Board to Address GMA-14
Edmund Chapman, GMVA President, will be addressing the regional water planning meeting, GMA-14, on November 18, 2020. A portion of his remarks are as follows:
As commonly known and acknowledged, ground water withdrawal from under The Woodlands geographic area that we represent is of major concern in our Village residents. Specifically, the impact of reducing the water table has a direct and adverse impact upon increased subsidence and that amplifies the risk of our residents to corollary home flooding during multi day rain events.
Three options for the next round of Desired Future Conditions (DFC) are being considered by GMA-14. Each of those options have a proposed groundwater pumping rate and an allowable water table reduction in the aquifers within Montgomery County. It is our understanding that GMA-14 members must select one of the three options now being considered.
The residents of Grogan’s Mill Village herein respectfully request that if you must approve one of the three options, currently tabled, then select the option that has the lowest aquifer water table drawdown in the three aquifers (and therefore the least potential for adverse surface property rights subsidence) for approval. Should you have any questions or wish for one of our GMVA Board Members to present on this issue before the GMA-14, we are happy to do so.
Respectfully,
Edmund W. Chapman, GMVA President, Upon Behalf of GMVA Board
Trolley Stops Requested
At the October meeting of the GMVA, the board agreed to send a letter to The Woodlands Township board to express residents’ wishes to expand the Woodlands Trolley System to include additional route stops specifically to include The Village at Woodlands Waterway, South Millbend at Grogan’s Mill Road and Tamarac Pines apartments. The additional stops will be beneficial to residents to be able to have access to grocery shopping now that the Grogan’s Mill village center is currently without a grocery store. The letter was sent and received on October 22, 2020.

FREE Covid-19 Testing
The Woodlands Township is hosting a FREE COVID-19 walk-up testing site at Town Hall.
When: Beginning, Friday, October 23, 2020
7 days a week
9am - 5:30 pm
How: Walk-ups to the van welcome.
Appointments are not necessary but you can book an appointment at https://curative.com/.
No insurance necessary.
Testing is provided by Curative, Inc. through a state grant with TDEM.
Curative offers an oral-fluid swab testing - an alternative method to nasopharyngeal or brain swabs in testing for COVID-19.
The self-administered oral fluid swab involves having the person cough first, which releases virus from the upper and lower respiratory tract. The virus is then caught in the saliva, the patient then swabs the inside of their cheeks and the roofs of their mouths for 20 seconds.
Once complete, the patient seals their test within a secure container and returns it to a medical professional to be administered in the lab. The entire Curative test is done without having to come into close contact with others, therefore eliminating the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) changes.
Test results provided within 24 - 48 hours via text or email.
Do not eat or drink, chew gum, smoke or brush your teeth 20 minutes prior to testing.
Capacity of 500 tests per day.
Park in the front parking lot, walk up to the van, receive the testing packet via a drop chute, complete the form and perform your test under the adjacent tent (Curative technicians are available by the tent for instructions), return completed test kit in drop chute in the van.
Watch how Curative administers the test at cur.tv/howtotest.
