For more discussion about the issues of pollutants in stormwater runoff, attend an online meeting presented by The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department. REGISTRATION is required.
The meeting is Wednesday, October 21, from 10 to 11:30am. Following the online discussion, participants may volunteer for a project installing educational storm drain markers in Grogan’s Mill Village of The Woodlands Township. In many places, people are at risk of having no access to clean water. Safe, fresh water for everyday use is a truly precious commodity. Its availability and quality, however, are dependent on keeping the sources healthy. That is true where we live, too.
The quality of water in our nearby streams, creeks and rivers depends in large part on how well we control pollutants and contaminants on land. We often think of negative impacts coming from industrial and manufacturing sources, but we each play a role in water quality by controlling pollutants in runoff from our neighborhoods.
For example, if the landscape contractor down the street blows leaves and grass clippings into the storm drain, they reduce water quality when rainfall washes them into the nearest waterway. All storm drains empty into a nearby stream, lake, or river, with no treatment or filtering. Everything in the storm drain affects water quality. A dramatic example is pet waste. When not picked up and disposed of properly, the bacteria associated with the waste is washed into local waters. That means aquatic life is at risk, and
so are any humans who contact the water.
School Donations
The COVID-19 pandemic meant that schools needed to add unexpected items to their supply lists at the last minute before the school year started. Items schools let us know they needed to purchase included breakaway lanyards for students, scan tags to aid in car rider pickup, and acrylic dividers for the registrar's office. Because of this, the Grogan’s Mill Village Association decided to send $2,500.00 grants to the 4 schools within the Village in the fall this year rather than waiting until spring. The GMVA wishes all school staff, teachers, students, and families a safe and successful school year.

Please Do Not Park on the Street on Trash Days
Parking on the street is sometimes necessary, especially now that many of us are home during the day during this time. However, to ensure uninterrupted waste service for you and your neighbors, we ask that you please avoid parking on the street on your trash day.
If a service or contractor truck is due to visit your home on your trash day, please reschedule for a day other than your service day. If rescheduling is not an option, notify the company and ask that they park in your driveway or in an area where they are not obstructing passage. If blocking the street on your service day is unavoidable, please contact Waste Management at 1-800-800-5804 and alert them before your next service day.
The Woodlands Farmer's Market Every Saturday
The Woodlands Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8AM until noon, rain or shine, at 7 Switchbud Place in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center. Check out our website, sign up for the newsletter, or look us up on Facebook.
Every Saturday there are great deals on fresh produce, farm-raised meats, prepared foods, unique gifts and garden items. We continue to have precautions in place: we have prohibited the consumption of food/beverage in the market, changed our layout to allow for maximum social distancing, spread our vendors to support social distancing, marked off appropriate social distancing throughout the market, required masks to be worn by patrons and vendors, vendors assist you with your purchase, and set up hand sanitizing stations.
Profits from Farmer's Market vendor fees are returned to our community through various philanthropic contributions, school donations, scholarships, and community programs.
